Elizabeth Sanders, the creator of AMIGOS CANTANDO, has been speaking Spanish all her life. Her mother was a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Elizabeth spent early childhood years in Bogotá, Colombia. She continued with her Spanish studies through high school and at Wesleyan University, where she received a degree in Ethnomusicology (music as it relates to culture). She is also fluent
in Portuguese and has traveled and worked in Latin
America as an adult. She is an accomplished singer—
both as a soloist and, for over 10 years, with the
vocal trio Sanders, Kass & White, with whom she
recorded the CD “Feels Like Home” and toured
from Maryland to Massachusetts. She arranged
and sang the backup vocals for John McKutcheon’s kids’ album “Mail Myself to You.”
AMIGOS CANTANDO is the blending of her greatest loves: singing, Spanish, silliness, promoting international understanding, and working with children. AMIGOS CANTANDO revives the name of a collection of Latin American Songs compiled and translated by Elizabeth’s parents, Olcutt and Phyllis Sanders, in 1948. Elizabeth teaches her AMIGOS CANTANDO Preschool Spanish program at preschools and in private classes in Seattle, Washington, where she has two children of her own.
